Summary:
This study focused on measuring household vulnerability to climate change in six communes in Kampong Speu Province and on identifying locally appropriate options and relevant policy interventions. Vulnerability was measured in terms of a Vulnerability Index (derived from exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity indices) and Vulnerability as Expected Poverty (VEP).  The study found that households in KPS had low exposure, average sensitivity, and low adaptive capacity. About 67% of the sample showed medium to very high vulnerability. The findings of this study are consistent with those of other studies and government reports.

Summary: This research analyzed the recreational value of Si Phan Don elicited from foreign visitors using TCM. It also assessed stakeholders’ perception of water quality and tourism in the study area and applied trade-off analysis in the case of tourism and environmental quality. A total of 271 foreign tourists from 34 countries, 90 local residents, and 60 local businesses were interviewed. Results of the travel cost study indicate that the recreational value of Si Phan Don is estimated between USD 4.1 million and USD 4.6 million, which means that tourism at the site would be profitable. Most local residents and businesses support tourism in their area as it can create job opportunities and increase their income.

Summary: This research evaluated small-scale farmers’ knowledge, perceptions of pesticide risks, and practices with regard to pesticide use to identify the determinants of their behavior. A choice experiment approach was also applied to investigate farmers’ valuations of health risk changes associated with pesticide use. A total of 630 farmers from seven towns in Anqiu County, China were interviewed and 420 farmers were randomly assigned to answer choice experiment valuation tasks. Results show that the frequency of pesticide application by local farmers is high and that the improper disposal of pesticides after use is common in the study area. The probability of pesticide overuse significantly decreased with farmers’ risk perceptions, willingness to reduce pesticide use, better social relationships, and strict government monitoring. Results of the choice experiment show that cancer consequence due to pesticide use decreases the utility of the farmer. Household income, education, and age have significant and positive impacts on farmers’ WTP. Farmers who are more educated or female are more likely to accept the compensation scheme if health risks increase. The marginal WTA for the same risk change is about two times higher than the marginal WTP.
